FDI grows 89% in Nuevo Leon during the first semester of 2018

During the first semester of 2018, the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Nuevo León amounted to $1,724.1 million dollars, an 89 percent increase in relation to the same period last year, according to the report of the Federal Ministry of Economy.

These numbers place Nuevo León in the first place in foreign direct investment attraction in Mexico, above other states like State of Mexico, Coahuila and Guanajuato.

The FDI captured by Nuevo León during the first semester of 2018 comes mainly from the United States with a 50 percent participation; Argentina with 19 percent, Spain with 12 percent and the Netherlands with 9 percent.

The sector that captured most of the FDI in Nuevo León is manufacturing with $958.7 million dollars, which represents 56 percent of what was captured in the first semester of 2018, followed by financial services with 283.6 million dollars, which represents the 16 percent; and commerce and services, with $139.4 million dollars, which represents the 8 percent.

In the first half of 2018, Nuevo León was the state that incorporated the largest number of new companies in the National Registry of Foreign Investments.

The total of new companies with foreign investment in Nuevo León in this period is 26, followed by Quintana Roo with 13 and Jalisco with 12.

It should be noted that the increase in the flow of foreign investment to Nuevo León is partly due to the fact that the socio-political and international economic panorama has been clarified, and the projects that had been paused during the year 2017 due to the position of the new Government of The United States, have been reactivated and in many cases confirmed.

Proof of this is that foreign investment from the United States in the first half of 2018 was $863 million dollars, compared to the same period of the previous year, which was $507.2 million dollars.

It is expected that the FDI to Nuevo León will continue to increase in the coming months and the State will continue to be a leader in attracting foreign direct investment in Mexico.
