NL registers 11 foreign investment projects of the automotive sector for more than 500 million dollars.
In Nuevo Leon there are about 11 foreign investment projects from the automotive industry, which are part of the list of projects announced by companies in the industry due to the dynamism that this sector has registered in the present administration of the Government.
Fernando Turner Dávila, Secretary of Economy and Labor of Nuevo León, said that according to their records, if the projects materialize, more than 508 million dollars could be captured in foreign investment for the entity.
According to the most recent report, the automotive sector is one of the most preponderant with a participation of 22 percent in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) projects announced by companies wishing to settle in Nuevo León.
"The automotive industry of Nuevo Leon is a national benchmark for integration, as a result of the joint work of the Government, Universities and Companies, which through the Triple Helix have managed to position the entity as one of the automotive supplier hub of the country", said Turner.
For now, it is not possible to disclose the names of the companies that have expressed interest in investing in Nuevo León, due to the confidentiality policies of these companies.
In recent years,after the start of operations of the KIA Motors plant in the Pesquería municipality, the automotive industry of Nuevo León has been transformed and has awakened the interest of auto parts companies in Asia and Europe, which see the entity as a platform to access the US market.
"One of the keys to the success of the model of the automotive sector has been the vision of the current Government, which through the Ministry of Economy and Labor has set as a priority the integration of SMEs of auto parts to the supply chain of large companies automotive Tier 1, a category in which the globally recognized assemblers are located", said the state official.
In 2017, Nuevo Leon exports were around 36,180.9 million dollars per year and the automotive industry represents a third of that total.
According to indicators of the Automotive Cluster (Claut) in Nuevo León, there are about 200 companies that are part of that sector, with exports of 11,500 million dollars in 2016 and 11,943.2 million dollars in 2017.
Among the representative companies of the automotive sector of Nuevo Leon are Metalsa, Frisa, Denso, Navistar, Gonher, Johnson Controls, Nemak, Prolamsa, Qimmco, Sisamex, Takata, Ternium, Viakable, Vitro, Mobis, Rassini, Tupy, Cifunsa and Yazaki.
The automotive industry of Nuevo León currently generates more than 70,000 jobs and highlights the commitment of KIA and its suppliers to generate up to 10,000 jobs once they operate at their maximum capacity.
